León Plant, Mexico
MPE Mexico, whose official name is Materias Plàsticas Y Elastomeros de México, S.A. de C.V., was founded at the end of 2008 and represents an additional step of MPE internationalization strategy. It was founded in order to catch the great potential of the growing local market for automotive components suppliers.
The main task of the Mexican subsidiary is to support global customers in the NAFTA and South America market region, with the supply of items for lighting, steering gears, transmissions and shock absorbers. The main components are both injected and blown molded products, such as steering gear bellows and CVJ boots.
The first plant was located in the city of León in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. Within a radius of 600 kilometers 80% of the population, as well as major customers, both OEMs and Tier 1, are covered. Nowadays the Mexican automotive industry enjoys an excellent health and a proof is that several car manufacturers have already directed their investments toward that market, or plan to do it soon.
The plant, in addition to the production dept. hosts the Management offices, the Quality Laboratory and Metrology, which constantly interact with the Italian headquarter. Like all the other MPE plants also MPE Mexico is certified IATF 16949.
The new opportunities and challenges offered by NAFTA market have made necessary the transfer to a newly built facility. During the spring 2019, the relocation of the Mexican plant in the new industrial park in Léon-Bajo, also known as PIBLBA, in the immediate surroundings of the same city of Léon, is successfully completed; the new building allows to concentrate both production and logistic activities in the same facility. Thanks to the existing public infrastructures and other typical advantages of the industrial park, the new plant enables an easy access form neighbour cities and states, allowing more business opportunities.
